Things had been bustling at the legacy house. Belinda had been trying to enjoy every moment of this place while she could, and also was busy distracting herself from what was beginning to feel like the inevitable. She realized that her mother was right. This house may be their home, but it wasn’t their house.
So she played pirate with Lizzy and Julius to feel whole again, and occasionally other members of the family would come out to play sea monster.
Lizzy looked back to her brother, who hadn’t yet played pirate with them before. Instead of being cold or exclusive she smiled at him and offered a friendly and familial welcome.
“Welcome aboard, fellow pirate, Julius!”
He smiled at her and said, “Thank you, Captain!”
But Lizzy just shook her head. “There are no captains on this ship. We work together, as a team, with no one person in complete command.”
Julius thought about what Lizzy said. “I could get used to this,” he grinned.
More importantly, Lizzy and Belinda barely left each other’s sides, even when Julius wasn’t with them.
It was like they were racing time.
