Chapter 5.24: Striking Ground

“Listen, Dad,” Lou said angrily. “You don’t get to yell at me my entire life, making me feel less than my brothers, and then turn around and make me feel guilty for calling you out about it. Eventually I am going to move out, I am bringing Belinda with me, and you can’t change that. I don’t know when this is going to happen, but it will. I’ll definitely visit, because you know I love this family, but I’m not going to let you continue to berate me.”

Leland was shocked, again, at Lou’s words- but this time by their authentic nature and not how calmly they were spoken. Because they were not spoken calmly.

Lou didn’t even give him a chance to respond. She left him sitting at the table in silence, and started getting ready for work.
